Costume Information
This is a formal event. Please make your best attempt at evening
attire (ballgown over hoops/white tie) or military uniform of the
1860s. Modern formalwear (long dresses, please, not cocktail length),
military uniform, or day attire of the 1860s is also suitable. Short
white gloves are recommended for both ladies and gentlemen.
Costume historian Katy Bishop has provided an excellent set of
recommendations and fashion plates for a Civil War Ball at Vintage Victorian
including guidelines for both ladies and gentlemen and dressmaking
hints.
Please bring indoor-only or freshly-cleaned shoes to avoid damaging
the beautiful dance floor in Pratt Hall. Gentlemen: hobnailed shoes,
boots, and spurs are not permitted in the ballroom. Ladies,
spike-heeled shoes are not permitted in the ballroom.
Limited
changing space is available at the hall at 7:00 pm the day of the
ball.
